Mission is the empowerment of a vision that powers a goal or set of goals.
Lately, I have been working deeply on vision (state) and mission (intention), values (meaning) and roles (power).
For each role in our life our brain has a mission and so controls behaviour. See how powerful a mission can be when an anorexia victim with a mission out of control. We inherently believe in your mission and they have got us here - We can live our best lives by reviewing our current missions for each of our roles.
To enable clearer visions, imagine you have no memory (as Michael Hall says "just sensing") and so release the filters that stop you from dreaming the biggest and boldest visions for each and every role in your life. Choosing the visions for you to live is done by looking at your values (meanings) and I used Maslow's Hierarchy as a guide to pull out my eight strongest values.
Now to turn it into a bold and achievable mission, and with a meta YES of commitment, intention, a passionate desire (lust) so strong you would die for it (anorexia victims do). Own the mission it is me (SELF)! Call all your protective resistance in approval of this mission and make it their duty to protect your mission. (I find this provides fire in the belly) Matching of role, vison and values is important for an achievable mission. Your present role may be learner so you cannot yet expect to have a near term vision of master. More useful is a smaller vision of competence a motivating stretch that you can expect to achieve with learning experience. Competence is gained by experience and in your heart you know your skills and then you can aim for mastery.
Practically to achieve these multiple missions we need to fit a jigsaw puzzle together that includes the time and resources available. So we need regular reference to missions to see we are on track to make adjustments.
Goals are practical things to achieve the mission the stuff you can DO to realize your ambition (WORLD). Timeline the emotional power from the mission into the goal and back through all the steps and mini goals all the way through you before today and back to your birth. (TIME) You were born for this mission (STATE).
How quickly can you change your missions? - NASA proved that 30 consecutive days changes a brain circuit (the famous experiment with astronauts wearing glasses that turned the world up side down).
